I don't want to hit it too hard.Īny ideas on what’s wrong here? Maybe the oil isn't making it to the bearings? I tapped the rear of the spindle with a block of wood to try to remove it but it wouldn't budge.
The fit up is very tight and there is no play in the spindle. I pulled the spanner nuts, pulleys, and gear from the rear of the spindle to verify the friction was in these bearings, and it was. There is so much friction in the spindle bearings that at the highest speed the motor over heated and started to bog to a stop! The housing around the spindle bearings was unusually hot (no I didn't forget to oil them!)
My machine didn't make it through break in. Got her cleaned up, lubed, and most everything works well except:ġ) The lead screrw in the compound rest is bent and will need to be replaced.Ģ)The rack gear for the manual carrage feed was mounted croocked causing the carrige to hand up near the head stock end (easy to fix just loosen the mounting screws for the rack gear straighten and re-tighten screws). The Machine arived in good condition, no rust or apparent damage, nice looking machine. Howdy all, I just joined this forum as I bought the G0602 last week!
